Last night, Mew performed their “last” show in Oslo as part of their farewell tour… Or did they?

Back in September of 2024, the band posted a somewhat confusing message on Facebook announcing two farewell shows in Denmark, scheduled for May 2025. A few weeks later, the band clarified their statement and admitted that only lead singer Jonas Bjerre would be leaving the band. They also announced a world tour following the Copenhagen farewell show.

Fast forward to last night, when Jonas took to the stage one last time for a final Norwegian show at Sentrum Scene. It was a solid 90-minute performance where the band lined up classics like SpecialThe Zookeeper’s Boy156 and Am I Wry?. They also gifted the crowd with some rarities like Then I RunRows or I Should Have Been a Tsin-Tsi. An absolute treat for the fans who have been following the band since A Triumph For Man, nearly 30 years ago.

They even played a newish song called Gliding that was first introduced to the public during the Orchestra tour in 2024. Maybe one day we shall get an official recording of the song. The band concluded their set with an epic and emotionally charged version of Comforting Sounds

During the encore, bassist Johan Wolhert confirmed that the band would be returning ‘soon’ without any information about who would be replacing Jonas. His decision to leave Mew has apparently got nothing to do with the band. Jonas confirmed via Instagram that it was time for him to embark on a different journey and focus on other creative projects. Will we see the return of Apparatijik? Or maybe a second Tachys album? Who knows.

One thing is sure, Bjerre’s voice has never sounded better. It would be a great loss to never hear him sing again. But since reunion tours are quite popular these days, maybe we will all meet up again in 10 years for the 40th anniversary of Mew. We shall dream… 5/6
