Amyl and the Sniffers returned to Øya for the 3rd time in 8 years with a mission to turn Amfiet into a sweaty, chaotic punk-rock party, ahead of The Cure on Wednesday night. The Australian sensation, brought a hurricane of punk-rock and raw energy to a large conquered fanbase, and a lot of curious. For those who aren’t familiar with AATS, imagine Iggy Pop and the Dammed had a baby together, with Peaches and The Darkness as godmother and godfathers: artistic chaos to say the least….
The lead singer signer, Amy Taylor, is mesmerizing on stage. She can’t stand still for more than 2 seconds, prowls, jumps and commands the stage for 60 minutes; impossible to look away. Behind her, the Sniffers were equally fun to watch with Declan Mehrtens on guitar, who serves us the look of a young Eddie Van Halen. The setlist was a good mix of their 3 albums with a special focus on their latest album «Cartoon Darkness».
If you are looking for a loud, funny, filthy and gloriously unrestrained band, Amyl and the Sniffers is for you. This was my first encounter and hopefully not the last. 5/6
